Meet the Marmots
Meet the Owner!
The Hoarding Marmot is the brainchild of Dana Drummond.
"I've had the opportunity to live, climb, ski, and adventure in a lot of places around the world but Alaska really stands out! After living here for almost 10 years, opening The Hoarding Marmot in 2015 just seemed like the right thing to do for myself and for the Southcentral Alaska outdoor community. There are so many specialized ways to adventure. Each approach requires their own select gear, which is often expensive and challenging to find used. I decided to open The Hoarding Marmot so there would be an easy way to get forgotten gear into the hands of the next excited enthusiast at a reasonable price. I hate seeing good gear go to waste, become obsolete and gather dust from lack of use. Re-use – it’s one of the big environmentally friendly R’s! There are other ways to buy and sell used items (online, yard sales, gear swaps, message boards, forums and flyers, etc.), but they are almost always time consuming and inconvenient. I'm happy to offer my experience and that of our experienced staff to help get people out into their next exploit without spending a fortune!"
Meet the Staff!
Naomi
General Manager (admin@hoardingmarmot.com)
Meet Naomi! Naomi has been a Marmot since 2017! She’s an expert in all things Nordic Skiing and Backpacking. She's also one of our Nordic Specialist over in the shop as well! When she’s not at the store, you can find her out on the trails coaching Nordic skiing, shooting weddings and elopements as a professional photographer, or planning travel for all of her family and friends. Naomi also traveled to Ruka, Finland and Lillehammer, Norway with the US Ski Team as a Trail to Gold Fellow to help coach the World Cup during Period 1 in December 2022.
"I grew up in Alaska, and have had the opportunity to explore, play, and adventure in my backyard since I was little, and in doing so I fell in love with the place I call home. I have always taken to thrifting, and would voyage to Value Village and find whatever I could, so it really makes sense that I would end up working at a consignment shop. I've been around the store since spring of 2017, have taken on the roles of Retail Manager, Training Manager, Sales Floor Manager, and now am the General Manager of the store. I hope you can enjoy scoring on those one of a kind items as much as I do! I have taken some small breaks here and there to hike the AT, coach, and to just play in the mountains, but always seem to find my way back here! I also enjoy mountain running, biking, hiking with my mom, backpacking, and hanging out on the ocean with my partner Morgan."
Morgan
Business Development Manager/Buyer (web@hoardingmarmot.com)
Meet Morgan! He grew up skiing here in Anchorage. Following a self-proclaimed "uneventful" ski career he began coaching at Dimond in 2016 and hasn't looked back since. He's also worked as a legal assistant, deckhand, a captain and has almost finished more degrees than you've ever thought of starting.
Currently he's managing all things retail here at the store including curating our select retail goods, buying, and team orders! When he’s not hiding upstairs behind the screen, he can be found hand flexing and fitting Nordic skis, performing all of our handyman duties, and brainstorming ways to improve efficiency in the store. He’s also one of the founders and the composites engineer for Sixty First Parallel, an Anchorage based nordic ski equipment company we carry here in the shop.
KJ
Marketing Manager (marketing@hoardingmarmot.com)
CJ
Sales Floor Manager (cj@hoardingmarmot.com)
CJ has been a Marm for 2 years and is our Sales Floor Manager. His job is to make sure you have a great shopping experience! His life stories are shared at work under the title “CJ Lore” and nobody is quite sure if it is all true, but we are sure it’s not all false! An avid outdoorsman, though a local enigma, CJ loves “everything outside”.
His favorite outdoor memory is of his first time white water kayaking. A buddy had taken him out into the Upper Green in Western North Carolina (Appalachia, as CJ calls it) where the river had Class 3 runs. Though not successful at staying dry, the feeling of discovering a new passion is what makes this memory a favorite. He was then able to return the favor by taking the same buddy Trad Climbing for the first time. If you need to find him, just look for the Legolas locks!
